Welcome to the Pandas’ Class Page

We are a Year 2 class.  Our teacher is Miss Bath and our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Andrews and Mrs Hill.

This week’s news:

In English we will be linking our writing to the sculptures we saw at Roche Court this week. We will share our opinions and think how the sculptures could link to a story. In Maths we are learning to see how we can use the inverse to check addition calculations. Our topic this term is Explorers, we have been learning about the 7 continents and 5 oceans.

This term in Pandas:

English: Firstly, we will be looking at fairy tales. We will then write our own mixed up fairy tales using different stories we know to help us. We will then link our learning to our visit to Roche Court Sculpture Park. We will use the sculptures we see to inspire us with our writing. We will be following the Letters & Sounds programme for our phonics learning and No-Nonsense Spelling for our grammar, punctuation and spelling learning.

Maths: This term we will be learning about place value. Children will need to have a secure understanding of how many tens and ones a number has. We will then move onto addition and subtraction ensuring children know their number bonds to 10 and can add and subtract using a number line.

Science: Our topic for this term is Animals. We will learn to group animals, know the needs of an animal and the life cycle of different animals.

RE: We are learning about how we show care for others. We will talk about how different people are special and look at stories from the Bible about friendship.

PSHE: Our Jigsaw topic this term is ‘Being Me in My World. ‘

History: We will be learning about Explorers. We will talk about the world map and what equipment explorers might need. We will focus on Christopher Columbus and Sir Francis Drake.

Art: We will be linking our Art learning with our visit to Roche Court Sculpture Park. We will be specifically looking at sculptures by Laura Ford.

PE: The skills we will be working on this term in PE are co-ordination and balance.

Computing: Our learning this term is based around programming. We will be using Beebots to create strings of instructions, use directional vocabulary and debug any problems that may occur.

Home Learning: In Year 2, Home Learning is set on a Thursday. If one week your child does not have home learning set it is expected that they will complete tasks from the ‘on-going list’ which is on the home learning policy.
