Pandas Class

Welcome to the Pandas’ Class Page!

We are a Year 2 class. Our teacher is Miss Cruse and our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Andrews (Monday to Wednesdays), Mrs Stratford (mornings) and Mrs Hill (Thursdays).

This term’s news:

This term, our topic is the Titanic! We have enjoyed making models of the ship, working in groups to build 1st, 2nd and 3rd class cabins and meeting a very knowledgeable man called George, who told us about a girl called Eileen who lived in Salisbury but died on the Titanic.

Parents: Please feel free to come and view our amazing Titanic models in the hall, after school on Monday 8th July.

Don’t forget, we are going on our school trip to SeaCity in Southampton next Thursday (11th July). The children need to wear school uniform and bring a water bottle.

In our other learning, in English we are looking at poetry and writing poems with lively vocabulary about minibeasts. In Maths, we are learning about different ways to measure mass and capacity. Our TGIF topic is ‘Save the Planet’, please remember to ask the children about what they have learnt.

Also this term we have spent lots of time preparing for our move to the Junior site. We have been on lots of visits to see what playtime and lunchtime are like and have had a tour of the site. If parents would like to look around the juniors, Mr Picton is leading a tour from the Infant site on Monday 8th July at 3pm.

With the weather being so warm at the moment, please make sure all children bring a water bottle to school.

This term in Pandas:

English: We have been reading Gangsta Granny by David Walliams, and early in the term we wrote our own stories based on this. Our characters stole some exciting objects and we used some brilliant expanded noun phrases and conjunction. After that we have been exploring poetry, particularly about minibeasts. We have been exploring how poets chose their vocabulary carefully and have written some of our own poems.

Maths: We began the term looking at position and direction, talking about movements left, right, forwards and backwards, and turns clockwise and anticlockwise. We are now exploring measurements of temperature, mass and capacity and looking at standard units of measure.

Science: This term we have been able to do some lovely science activities, including pond dipping and looking at different types of plants. We have also gathered the final results for our year-long enquiry and made bar charts to represent these before writing conclusions.

RE: This term we are studying Islam.

PSHE: This term we are exploring how our bodies change, through a unit called ‘Changing Me’.

Geography: N/A this term.

Art: N/A this term.

DT: This term we designed and made our own hand puppets, using felt and a running stitch.

PE: We have continued to play rounders this term.

Computing: We have linked our Science and Computing learning this term, by creating our bar charts on the laptops.
