Welcome to the Koalas’ Class Homepage.

We are a year 2 class.  Our teacher is Miss Catling and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Jackson.

This week’s news:

In English we have begun our topic about David Walliams, focusing on the book ‘Gangsta Granny.’ We will be looking at the main characters in the book and making predictions.  In Maths we are learning to use tally charts correctly to enable us to make pictograms and bar charts.  Our topic this term is Titanic,  we shared our home learning today and the children were very knowledgeable! We looked at the route the Titanic was supposed to take and plotted information we had learnt on a timeline.

This Term in Koalas:

English: We are learning about a famous author called David Walliams. We will compare books that he has written and write our own story based on one of his. We will be following the Letters & Sounds programme for our phonics learning and No-Nonsense Spelling for our grammar, punctuation and spelling learning.

Maths: We will completing our statistics unit of learning looking at interpreting a variety of graphs. We will also be looking at position and direction.  

Science: Our topic for this term is our local environment. We will focus on our school grounds and explore what plants and invertebrates live in different areas around our school.

RE: We are learning about beliefs. We will be thinking about why God is important to Christians and Muslims.

PSHE: Our Jigsaw topic this term is ‘Changing Me.’

History: We will learn about the Titanic; concentrating on the key events that unfolded, the different types of people that boarded the ship and the publicity surrounding the ship.

DT: This term we will be making puppets. We will research, design and evaluate our finished puppet.

Music: This term we have Mrs Parsons from Wiltshire Music coming in every other Friday to teach music. We will learn about rhythm, beat and pitch.

PE: Our topics this term is rounders and races in preparation for Sports Day.

Computing: Our learning this term is sound recording, we will link this to our Titanic learning.

Home Learning: In Year 2, Home Learning is set on a Thursday. If one week your child does not have home learning set it is expected that they will complete tasks from the ‘on-going list’ which is on the home learning policy.

 

The On-going List:

  • Listening to adults read stories.
  • Reading (from reading book and other books/own literature – we recommend no more than 10 or 15 minutes). Please record and sign the ‘Reading Record.’
  • Reading and spelling from word cards.
  • Practise reading and spelling year 2 common exception words.
  • Bug club (once allocated)
  • Mathletics (once allocated)
