FrOGS letter Summer 2018

“Working together in partnership for the School community”

Hello. I’m Karen Beard (Year 3 Mum) and the current Chair of FrOGS

I attended my first AGM when my son started at Greentrees in 2015. We had just moved into the area. I joined the committee and enjoyed helping with all the events for a few years before stepping up to be Chair last year. I’ve met some lovely Mums that I wouldn’t have got to know otherwise and can attest to how friendly the group is and how willing to get involved and help they are. That’s not to say we couldn’t do with more volunteers of course – we’re always looking for more help, so don’t be shy – grab me in the playground or send me an e-mail if you’d like to get involved. It’s all for our kids benefit!

There’s more info below to help you decide.

What does FrOGS stand for?

Friends of Greentrees School (FrOGS) is the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and plays a key role in the life of Greentrees School. We hold events throughout the year primarily to raise funds for the school, but also to provide fun and social activities for the children and their parents/guardians.

Who are we?

FrOGS is a charitable organisation (Charity Number 1096506). We currently havea Chair and Vice Chair, a Treasurer, a Secretary and around another 60 regular members from both the parent and teaching community. Friendly half termly meetings are held to organise fundraising events.

FrOGS hold their Annual General Meeting at the school every September when the new Committee is elected. We welcome as many parents/guardians as possible to attend the AGM to listen to future plans and whilst there is no obligation to join the committee, you are most welcome to do so. Parent committee members come from all walks of life, andyou don’t need to possess any specific qualifications!

What have we achieved so far?

Since the PTA was set up in September 2002 FrOGS have raised in excess of £65,000. We have been involved in a wide range of fundraising events; from the traditional like the Summer and Christmas fairs, to topical events like the World Cup football night and the annual Scarecrow competition. We have hosted children’s events including regular discos, Easter Bingo and even Art Competitions. Adult events like the Annual Quiz have been well supported over the years.

FrOGS have the Library Lottery for parents to join and the Easy Fundraising facility. In recent years we have organised Bags2School collections and raised over £2500 with over 4500kgs of clothes donated.

FrOGS have their own newsletter “The Leaplet” and in keeping with the technological age we now have our own Facebook page, Twitter account and email address; [email protected]

Why have a PTA?

FrOGS benefits the whole school in a range of ways:

  • Pupils and teachers are able to receive additional funding outside the school budget e.g. play trail equipment, the pond and copse, music workshops, the Christmas panto and other Christmas treats, new equipment or even providing subsidised travel for trips.
  • The opportunity to meet new people, form friendships and socialise.
  • FrOGS provides an additional link between staff, parents and pupils and adds to the whole school community. You can help FrOGS in three main ways:
  • How can you help?
  1. Become a committee member
  2. Join our “helper list”
  3. Attend the events that we hold, come along and have some fun while raising money for your children.

For further information on joining or becoming a supporter/volunteer of FrOGS please email us, join our Facebook page, follow us on Twitter or ask on the playground to be directed to a friendly committee member.
